Reviews:

DMX is back with a difference. His fourth studio album The Great Depression, will make it clear to his old fans that his tone has changed, yet his strong powerful voice, well produced beats and interesting lyrics are sure to catch some attention anyway. The first track that deserves a mention is "I'm A Bang" which is hard hitting, and still flows in the traditional feel of DMX, styled around a rock song, with its distorted guitar samples and rock flavored drum loops. The harshness that is present in his voice fits well to this style. Underlying the hard-hitting rock sounds are some softer sounding string samples, which fill in the gaps nicely. Following in this rock flavour is "Who We Be", with its simple yet captivating melody and DMX's unmistakable vocal nature. The only downfall is the vocal lines during the chorus, which can become irritating after a while. The third rock styled track is the "Bloodline Anthem", if you were to remove DMX then the music would be pure rock, yet his voice fits the song and makes this track one of the superior ones on the album. With "The Prayer" - a track that is just that a prayer - not much can be said except you will either listen to it or skip it. "School Streets" a well produced song, has lots happening in terms of production and a fine use of different samples, including gun shots. "I Miss You" features Faith Evans over a slower track with a more mellow DMX and is probably the most easy listening track on the album. "We Right Here" still keeps it at a slower pace, yet DMX's voice takes to a hard hitting tone during the verses and drops back a little in the chorus. "Trina Moe" speeds up a little with DMX showing off his rhyming abilities over a nicely produced beat.

Overall, with a number of interesting tracks, DMX’s vocal roar and decent production, The Great Depression is definitely worth a listen.
